Featured Athlete: Jonah Gadjovich
Now in his third season with the OHL’s Owen Sound Attack, Jonah Gadjovich has absolutely exploded in recent months. Since Remembrance Day, the 18 year old forward has scored 18 goals and added 11 assists in just 21 games, including a hat trick against the Windsor Spitfires on January 7th. Gadjovich’s versatility was put on display in that game, as he scored the first goal on the powerplay, the second shorthanded, and the third at even strength. His goal-scoring surge has been a product of getting a high volume of pucks at the net, as he has twice recorded 12 shots on goal in games this season. He has also been responsible in his own end, as evidenced by his +21 rating, ranking him amongst the top 20 in the OHL. He also ranks amongst the OHL’s top 20 in goals (21), powerplay goals (6) and shots on goal (143). More importantly, he’s been a major contributor to the Attack’s 10-game win streak over the past month.
Gadjovich is a powerful skater who never shies away from contact and loves to get his nose dirty. The athletic power forward plays a smart and simple 200-foot game, and is used in all situations. He is at his best when driving the net, opening up the rest of the ice for his teammates.
As a late birthday born in October of 1998, Gadjovich will be eligible for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. An underrated prospect entering this season, his strong play in recent months has made him someone that opponents and scouts alike will be focusing in on during the second half of the season.
